## IT Interview Tips for Freshers in India 2026

The gap between being technically skilled and successfully interviewing is real. Many skilled candidates lose job opportunities because they don't know how to present themselves effectively in an interview. This guide covers the complete interview preparation strategy for freshers entering IT roles in Amritsar and Jalandhar.

Understanding What Indian IT Interviewers Look For

For fresher roles, interviewers are not expecting extensive experience. They are assessing:

  • •. Domain knowledge: Do you understand the fundamentals of the role?
  • •. Practical skill: Can you demonstrate actual ability, not just theoretical knowledge?
  • •. Communication: Can you explain concepts clearly to a colleague or client?
  • •. Attitude and learning agility: Are you genuinely curious, willing to learn, and coachable?
  • •. Cultural fit: Will you work well with the existing team?

Most fresher interviews fail because of poor communication and inability to demonstrate practical skills — not because of knowledge gaps.

Before the Interview — Preparation Checklist

Research the company: Visit their website, social media, and any recent news. For digital marketing roles: check their Google Ads campaigns (use SpyFu or Google's Ad Library to see running Facebook ads), review their Google Business Profile and reviews, assess their website's SEO basics. Walking in with specific observations about their digital presence immediately differentiates you.

For example: "I noticed your Google Ads don't have location extensions enabled, which typically increases CTR by 10–15% for local businesses. I'd love to discuss how I could help optimize these campaigns."

Prepare your portfolio: Every IT fresher interview should include a portfolio or work samples. Bring a printed copy or have it easily accessible on your phone/laptop.

For digital marketing: screenshots of any campaigns you've run (even small ones), Google Analytics reports, certification screenshots (Google, HubSpot), sample content or ads you've created.

For data analytics: Power BI dashboard screenshots, Excel analysis files, any SQL queries you've written for practice.

For graphic design: Behance portfolio or printed design samples.

Prepare to talk about your learning: How did you learn the skill? What specific resources did you use? What was the most challenging part? What would you do differently now? These questions reveal your learning process, which is what employers are actually assessing in a fresher.

Common Interview Questions for IT Freshers

For Digital Marketing roles:

"What is digital marketing and how is it different from traditional marketing?" Answer: Digital marketing uses online channels (Google, Facebook, Instagram, email, websites) to reach customers. Unlike traditional marketing (TV, newspaper, hoardings) — digital is measurable, targetable, and can be adjusted in real-time. I can track exactly how many people saw an ad, how many clicked, and how many converted.

"Walk me through how you would run a Google Ads campaign for a new client" Answer: Structure your answer: First, I'd understand the client's business, target audience, and conversion goal. Then keyword research to find what potential customers search. Build campaign structure — ad groups by keyword theme, specific ad copy, designated landing pages for each group. Set targeting by location, schedule, and device. Launch with test budget, monitor metrics (CTR, CPC, conversion rate), optimize based on data.

"What is SEO and how do you improve a website's Google ranking?" Answer: SEO is the practice of optimizing a website so Google ranks it higher for relevant searches. Key elements: On-page (keyword in title, meta description, H1 headings, content quality, page speed), Off-page (earning backlinks from other websites), Technical (site speed, mobile responsiveness, proper URL structure, schema markup), Local SEO for businesses with physical location (Google Business Profile, citations).

"Explain what a conversion is in digital marketing." Answer: A conversion is when a website visitor completes a desired action — submitting a contact form, making a purchase, calling the business, downloading an app. Every campaign has a conversion goal. We optimize campaigns to maximize conversions at the lowest cost (CPL — cost per lead, or CPA — cost per acquisition).

For Data Analytics roles:

"Explain VLOOKUP and when you would use it" "What is a Pivot Table and walk me through creating one" "Describe what Power BI is and what you can build with it" "How would you approach analyzing this dataset?" (they show you raw data — walk through: understand what questions need answering, check for missing data and errors, calculate relevant summaries, visualize key findings, present actionable insight)

For Web Development roles:

"What is the difference between HTML, CSS, and JavaScript?" HTML: Structure of the page (headings, paragraphs, images, links) CSS: Styling and visual design (colors, fonts, layout) JavaScript: Behavior and interactivity (dropdowns, form validation, dynamic content)

"Explain responsive design." "What is the difference between a server-side and client-side language?" "Show me a website you've built and walk me through the code"

The "Tell Me About Yourself" Answer Framework

This is always the first question. A weak answer costs you the interview.

Structure (60–90 seconds): 1. Brief background (current education/training) 2. Key skills you've developed (specifically relevant to this role) 3. A specific project or achievement that demonstrates capability 4. Why you're interested in this specific company/role

Example for digital marketing fresher: "I recently completed a Digital Marketing certification from MITS Academy in Amritsar, where I learned Google Ads, Meta Ads, SEO, and analytics. During my course, I managed a Google Ads campaign for a local business — with a ₹2,000 budget, I generated 23 inquiries at an average of ₹87 per lead, which was 60% below the industry average. I'm particularly interested in [Company Name] because [specific reason based on your research] and I believe my skills in campaign management and analytics align well with what you need for this role."

Asking Questions at the End

Always have 2–3 questions ready for the end of the interview. This shows genuine interest and preparation.

Good questions: - "What does a typical day look like for someone in this role?" - "What are the main campaigns or projects I'd be working on initially?" - "What are the growth opportunities from this position — where do people who do well typically advance?" - "What do you most want the person in this role to accomplish in the first 3 months?"

Questions to avoid: - "What is the salary?" (wait for them to bring it up or ask after you've been selected) - "How many leaves do we get?" (brings up administrative concerns too early) - "What time do we go home?" (sounds disengaged from work)

---

After the Interview

Send a follow-up message (WhatsApp or email) within 24 hours: "Thank you for the opportunity to interview for [role] at [Company]. I enjoyed learning about [specific thing you discussed] and I'm excited about the possibility of contributing to your team. Please let me know if you need any additional information from my side."

This takes 2 minutes and demonstrates professionalism that many candidates skip.
