Data Science Course in Ludhiana 2026 — For PAU & GNDEC Science and Engineering Graduates

MITS Faculty 9 min read

Data Science is distinct from Data Analytics — it's the coding-heavy, machine-learning-oriented track. Here's what MITS Academy's 6-month program actually requires and who it suits in Ludhiana.

A common point of confusion among Ludhiana students researching data careers is the difference between "Data Analytics" and "Data Science." They sound similar and get used interchangeably in casual conversation, but the courses — and the career paths — are meaningfully different. This post is specifically about Data Science: the more technical, coding-and-statistics-heavy track for students who want to build predictive models, not just dashboards.

## Data Science vs. Data Analytics — the real difference

Data Analytics (already covered in MITS's earlier Ludhiana guide for BCom/BBA graduates) is largely tool-based: Excel, SQL, Power BI, interpreting data that already exists. Data Science goes further — it includes Python-based statistical modeling, machine learning algorithms, and the mathematical reasoning behind predictions. It's a better fit for students with a science or engineering background who are comfortable with — or willing to learn — more math and code.

This makes it a natural fit for PAU (Punjab Agricultural University) and GNDEC (Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College) students, many of whom already have strong fundamentals in statistics, calculus, or programming from their degree.

## What the Model Town course covers

MITS Academy's Data Science course runs 6 months, with batches every Saturday. It covers:

- Python for data science — NumPy, Pandas, data cleaning and manipulation - Statistics and probability fundamentals applied to real datasets - SQL for extracting and querying data from databases - Data visualization — Matplotlib, Seaborn, and dashboard tools - Machine learning fundamentals — regression, classification, clustering using scikit-learn - Capstone projects building and presenting a full predictive model from raw data to insight

## Fees at the Ludhiana centre

₹40,000–₹55,000 for the complete 6-month program, EMI available. This is a longer, deeper program than the 2-month Python foundation course or the non-coding Data Analytics track, and the fee reflects that depth.

## Who should pick this over Data Analytics

- PAU agricultural science and life science graduates — data science skills are increasingly used in agri-tech and precision farming analytics, a space with real local relevance to Ludhiana's surrounding agricultural belt - GNDEC engineering students (any branch) who want a technical, resume-boosting specialization before placement season - BSc Computer Science / IT graduates who already have some programming exposure and want to go deeper than a generic "IT job" - Students who are NOT comfortable with code or math should choose Data Analytics instead — Data Science assumes you're willing to engage with both

## Being honest about the learning curve

This is the most technically demanding of MITS's data-related courses. Students without any prior programming exposure may want to complete the 2-month Python Programming course first before attempting Data Science directly — the Python course is explicitly designed as the on-ramp into this and the AI/ML tracks.

## The Model Town centre

Located in Model Town, Ludhiana, Punjab 141002, serving nearby neighborhoods including PAU Gate, Dugri, Sarabha Nagar, and Civil Lines, the centre runs the identical ISO 9001:2015 certified curriculum used at MITS's established Amritsar and Jalandhar centres. As a new centre it has no independent Google review history yet, unlike Amritsar (4.7★, 1,038 reviews) and Jalandhar (5.0★, 184 reviews) — a fact worth stating directly rather than implying otherwise. The placement network — 200+ hiring partners including TCS, Infosys, Wipro, and Cognizant, plus a growing set of Mohali and Chandigarh-based startups roughly 100 km away — is shared across all three Punjab centres.

## FAQs

Can I do Data Science straight after 12th class? It's possible but demanding. Most students benefit from first completing a bachelor's degree or at least the 2-month Python foundation course to build comfort with code before committing to 6 months of statistics and ML.

Is this course only for CS students? No — PAU science graduates and even commerce-background students with strong analytical interest have completed it, though the pace assumes you're willing to put in extra study time on math fundamentals if your degree didn't cover them.

What jobs does this lead to? Entry-level Data Analyst, Junior Data Scientist, and ML Engineer trainee roles, typically in the ₹3.5–6 LPA fresher range depending on the hiring company and role — consistent with outcomes already documented for MITS's other technical 6-month tracks.

What's the batch schedule? New batches start every Saturday at the Model Town centre.
