GST Filing & Accounting Jobs for BCom Graduates in Punjab 2026

MITS Faculty 8 min read

A BCom degree alone rarely gets you hired for accounting roles in Punjab in 2026 — employers want proof you can actually run GST filing and accounting software. Here's the honest gap, and how to close it.

Every year, thousands of BCom graduates across Amritsar, Jalandhar, and Ludhiana finish their degree and apply for accounting or finance jobs — and a large share of them don't hear back. This isn't because BCom is a weak degree. It's because most BCom syllabi teach accounting theory (double-entry bookkeeping, financial statements, cost accounting) without any hands-on time on the actual software and GST processes Punjab's employers expect you to already know on day one.

Why the degree alone falls short

A hiring manager at a Punjab SME isn't asking "does this candidate understand what a Trial Balance is." They're asking "can this candidate sit down at our system today and process invoices, file our GST returns, and manage our stock ledgers without three weeks of training." A BCom degree proves the first. It rarely proves the second.

This gap shows up specifically in three places employers screen for:

  • •Software fluency — Tally Prime and/or Busy Accounting, depending on what the business runs, not just theoretical knowledge of "accounting software exists"
  • •Live GST filing experience — actually generating GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B data, not just knowing GST is "an indirect tax"
  • •Real transaction volume — comfort processing dozens of vouchers, invoices, and reconciliations, not a handful of textbook examples

What closes the gap

A focused, software-specific course — 2 months, not another 3-year commitment — is what converts a BCom degree from "theoretically qualified" to "actually hireable." MITS Academy runs two separate tracks built exactly for this:

Busy Accounting (2 months, ₹15,000–₹25,000) — covers accounting fundamentals, then the Busy software itself: company setup, masters (ledgers, stock items, godowns), transactions, GST configuration and GSTR-1/GSTR-3B filing, e-invoicing, e-way bills, and a 2026-specific AI-assisted workflow module (ChatGPT for GST queries, AI invoice OCR, AI reconciliation helpers). Busy has a real, specific strength in inventory-heavy retail, wholesale, and manufacturing businesses.

Tally Prime + GST — the other major accounting software used across Punjab SMEs, with the broader overall footprint and standard use in CA articleship.

Both courses run identically at all three MITS Academy centres — Amritsar (SRK Mall, Mall Road), Jalandhar (65 Garha Road, opposite PIMS), and Ludhiana (Model Town).

Which one should a BCom graduate pick?

There's no universally correct answer — it depends on what employers in your target market actually use. The honest approach: spend 20-30 minutes scanning current job postings for "accountant," "accounts executive," or "GST executive" roles in your city, and note which software (Tally or Busy) shows up more in the listings you'd actually apply to. If you have the time, learning both over roughly 4 months maximizes hireability, since different employers standardise on different software.

Realistic roles and what they need

After a focused software course, BCom graduates are positioned for: Junior Accountant, Accounts Executive, GST Executive, Billing Executive, Inventory Manager, and Tax Assistant roles. These are genuinely entry-to-intermediate positions — not a shortcut to a Chartered Accountant-level role, and no honest course should claim otherwise. What they do reliably fix is the specific, narrow gap between "I have a BCom" and "I can do this job starting Monday."

Building a resume that actually gets noticed

For BCom graduates applying in Punjab's accounting market, the resume line that matters most isn't the degree — it's specific, concrete software and process experience: "Tally Prime / Busy Accounting," "GST filing (GSTR-1, GSTR-3B)," "TDS basics," and "Excel (VLOOKUP + pivot tables)." Real, simulated project experience — a full company setup, a GST filing simulation, an inventory management project, payroll processing — gives you something concrete to describe in an interview beyond "I studied accounting."

FAQs

Is a BCom degree required to join either course? No — both the Busy Accounting and Tally Prime + GST courses are built for beginners and assume no prior software experience, starting with accounting fundamentals before the software itself. BCom graduates typically move faster through the foundational sections since the concepts are already familiar.

How long does it take to become job-ready after a BCom? Both accounting software courses run around 2 months. Combined with genuine practice on the simulated projects each course includes, most BCom graduates are realistically interview-ready for junior accounting, GST, or billing roles within that window.

Should I learn Tally, Busy, or both? It depends entirely on what employers in your target city and industry actually use — check current job postings before deciding. If time allows, learning both over about 4 months is the strongest hireability move, since different Punjab employers standardise on different software.

Do these courses cover GST filing specifically, or just accounting theory? Both cover live GST filing — GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B data generation, e-invoicing, and e-way bill workflows — inside the actual software, not just as a theory module.

Are these courses available in Ludhiana too? Yes — both run identically at MITS Academy's Amritsar, Jalandhar, and Ludhiana (Model Town) centres.
