Data Visualization Course in Amritsar & Jalandhar 2026 — Power BI, Tableau & Looker Guide

MITS Faculty 8 min read

Looking specifically for a Power BI or Tableau course, not a full data analytics programme? Here's what MITS Academy's 2-month Data Visualization course actually covers, who it's for, and what it costs.

If you're specifically searching for a Power BI course in Amritsar or a Tableau course in Jalandhar, you're asking a narrower question than "which data analytics institute is best." Data Analytics and Data Science courses touch visualization as one module among many — SQL, Python, statistics, sometimes machine learning. If your actual goal is to get sharp at building dashboards and reports specifically, a dedicated visualization course gets you there faster and cheaper. This guide covers MITS Academy's Data Visualization course — what it actually teaches, who it's genuinely built for, and what it costs.

What this course is — and what it isn't

This is a 2-month, tool-focused course covering three visualization platforms end to end: Power BI, Tableau, and Looker Studio. It is not a data analytics or data science course — there's no SQL module, no Python, no statistics or machine learning here. If you need those foundations, MITS Academy's Data Analytics or Data Science programmes cover them; this course assumes you either already have that foundation or you're deliberately targeting a visualization-specific role.

That distinction matters because a lot of students end up disappointed after enrolling in the wrong course. If you want to become a full-stack data analyst who can query databases, clean data, and build dashboards, this alone isn't enough. If you specifically want to become excellent at Power BI and Tableau — as a specialisation on top of existing analytics skills, or because you're targeting BI Developer or Dashboard Designer roles directly — this is the right, focused choice.

What the 2-month curriculum actually covers

Power BI (roughly the first month): - Power BI Desktop setup, the Fields/Visualizations/Filters panes, and connecting to SQL, Excel, APIs, and web data sources - Power Query — the ETL workflow: cleaning duplicates, merging and appending queries, splitting columns, handling missing values - Data modeling — star schema vs snowflake schema, relationships, primary/foreign keys, cardinality - Building bar charts, pie charts, line charts, matrices, and interactive reports with slicers, drill-throughs, bookmarks, and navigation buttons - DAX from the ground up — calculated columns vs measures, core functions (SUM, AVERAGE, COUNTROWS, DISTINCTCOUNT), advanced functions (CALCULATE, FILTER, ALL, RELATED), and time intelligence (TOTALYTD, SAMEPERIODLASTYEAR, DATEADD) - Advanced analytics visuals — Key Influencers, Decomposition Trees, forecasting - Publishing to Power BI Service, Row-Level Security, and workspace/collaboration management - A final Power BI project: pick a real dataset (sales, customer, or financial data), clean and model it, build DAX measures, and present a finished dashboard

Tableau (the second phase): - Tableau Desktop setup, connecting to data sources, and data prep with Tableau Prep (cleaning, joining, pivoting) - Core chart types, filters, parameters, hierarchies, sorting, grouping, and sets - Calculated fields, table calculations (running totals, percent of total, moving averages), and Level of Detail (LOD) expressions — FIXED, INCLUDE, EXCLUDE - Advanced visuals — geographic maps, heat maps, treemaps, Gantt charts — plus forecasting, trend lines, and clustering - Performance optimization (Live vs Extract, indexing), dashboard design best practice, and Tableau Stories for data storytelling - Integration work — TabPy for Python scripts inside Tableau, R integration, custom SQL connections, and publishing/scheduling on Tableau Server or Tableau Cloud - A final Tableau project mirroring the Power BI one, so you leave with two complete, presentable dashboard projects across the two dominant BI tools

Looker Studio and AI-assisted dashboarding: Alongside the two flagship tools, the course covers Looker Studio (Google's free reporting tool, common in marketing and small-business analytics), plus the current generation of AI copilots inside these platforms — Power BI Copilot and Tableau Pulse — that generate charts and summaries from natural-language prompts. Knowing how to direct and verify AI-generated visuals, not just build everything manually, is quickly becoming a baseline expectation in BI job postings.

Who this course is actually for

  • •Data Analytics or Data Science graduates who want to specialise further in visualization and reporting before job-hunting — this is the natural next step after those broader programmes, not a replacement for them
  • •Working professionals in finance, operations, sales, or marketing who already handle Excel-level reporting and want to move up to interactive, automated dashboards
  • •Career-changers targeting BI Developer or Dashboard Designer roles specifically — roles where the job description is explicitly about Power BI/Tableau fluency rather than broad analytics
  • •IT students who want a fast, visible skill — a finished dashboard portfolio is one of the most demo-able outputs in tech, useful even as a supporting skill alongside a different core specialisation

It is a weaker fit if you have zero data background and want your first-ever data skill — start with Data Analytics or Data Science instead, then add this course afterward.

Fees and duration

The course runs 2 months and costs ₹18,000–₹28,000 depending on batch and mode (the range reflects group-batch vs personal-batch pricing, consistent with MITS Academy's other short specialisation courses). That's meaningfully less than a full 4–6 month Data Analytics or Data Science programme, which makes sense — this is a focused add-on, not a full career-changing curriculum.

Realistic career paths

Graduates with a strong Power BI/Tableau project portfolio are positioned for: BI Developer, Reporting Analyst, Dashboard Designer, Tableau Developer, Power BI Developer, Data Analyst, AI-Assisted Analytics Engineer, and Analytics Consultant roles. In Amritsar and Jalandhar specifically, this skill set is in steady demand at accounting firms, e-commerce sellers, and BPOs that need someone to turn spreadsheet exports into readable, automated reports — often before those companies need a full data science hire.

FAQs

Is this course enough to get a data analyst job on its own? It can support one, especially paired with strong Excel and basic SQL skills, but it isn't designed to teach you SQL or statistics from scratch. Most students either come in with those foundations already, or take this alongside/after MITS Academy's Data Analytics course.

Power BI or Tableau — which should I focus on if I only have time for one? Power BI has wider adoption in Indian companies right now, largely because it's bundled with Microsoft 365 licensing many businesses already own. But this course teaches both because job postings frequently list either one, and Tableau remains stronger in some MNC and analytics-consultancy environments.

Do I need coding experience to take this course? No. DAX (Power BI) and calculated fields (Tableau) use formula-like syntax, not general-purpose programming. The optional TabPy/Python integration module is exposure-level, not a coding requirement.

How is this different from the Data Visualization module inside the Data Analytics course? The Data Analytics course covers visualization as one module among SQL, Python, and statistics modules. This course spends the full 2 months going deep on Power BI, Tableau, and Looker Studio specifically — more chart types, more DAX/calculated-field depth, and two full dashboard projects instead of one shorter exercise.
